What Trends Are To Be Expected This Year?

With the Noughties well and truly behind us now (for the better I think) we can now look forward, or not look forward to some of the biggest trends that are to come into 2010 and take the world by storm.

What are the main trends going to be for 2010 and why are they coming in now of all times?

Interior Design

People are not looking to splash out on very expensive furniture this year so that means giant shops like IKEA are sure to see a drop in some of their sales. It also seems that people are looking for classic furniture from the 60s this year as it lasts for a longer period of time. Bedroom furniture is set to be on the top of the list this year with white wardrobes being a must have. Dining room furniture is the next room on the list apparently.

Beauty

Are you a scruff, well if you are 2010 is the year for you as bed hair is set to come into fashion once again, great for people like me. Rather strange is that grey hair and bold eyebrows are set to be in fashion as well as the shaved head, how about shaved head and bold eyebrows. shaving your head at the moment would not be a good idea, more cold weather is on the way!

Fitness

As much as I would like my girlfriend to take up pole dancing lessons it looks like that died with the Noughties and so far there are not really any specific things we can look out for when it comes to fitness this year. It would seem that working out in a group is going to be coming in this year.

Travel

The year where we all stay at home in our own country is over thank goodness and this year sees a large increase in a return to our favourite holiday destinations.

So although money is still going to be tight this year I think it is quite clear by the trends we are likely to see that as a nation we are slowly picking ourselves up from the recession.

The First Flight I Remember!

My name is James, and it's been quite a while since I had been on a plane. It was a really long time ago that I last passed out, more than a decade. It was pretty clear to me that something was wrong, yet I didn't feel or think that I was scared of flying, it just happened. Going back on to a plane was very low on my priority list, and decided to stay at home for holidays in future, may sound sad, but obviously it wasn't in the house. About 2 years into my marriage, it was time to face my fears and get on a plane, all that way to Egypt, a massive mission!

All I could do was remember moments of when i was on the plane and then waking up at the arrival desk... When I returned from my last holiday I passed out as well, however I have no idea why, and it was a while ago now, so I got a little scared! There was no way that my missus was going to let me get away from going on that plane. As far as i could tell, once i sat down everything was fine, I wasn't losing my mind, and my vision was going blurry, I didn't feel as though i was going to pass out or anything. Nothing seemed to unsettle me, even the noise of the massive engines under the planes wings didn't upset me!

I couldn't figure out why I didn't pass out this time, or why I passed out the last time, everything just seemed to be fine this time. I was actually getting pretty excited about my holiday now. I was really looking forward to getting to Egypt, and then jumping back on the plane. All of a Sudden there it was! Across the loud speakers, the Captain could be heard announcing that some heavy turbulence was heading our way. Things got really bad, the plane felt as though it was going to crack up in the sky, and there was even a light storm brewing outside. And then all of sudden it stopped, but my heart didn't. This was the only time that fainting would have been nice!

Egypt holidays turned out to be something I never returned to, next up was a choice between Maldives holidays or Sri Lanka holidays, both involve a aeroplane!

Christmas Travel Disruption from Eurostar

Eurostar train break downs, caused by the unusually severe winter weather, have resulted in tens of thousands of travelers stranded or delayed. Siz broken down Eurostar trains have resulted in as many as 55,000 travellers experiencing disruption.

Eurostar have reported that although their trains have been reliable for over 15 years the abnormally acute weather conditions in northern France have caused the problems that have been experienced. It is reported that as many as 2000 passengers were trapped in the Channel tunnel on broken down trains. Some spent up to 16 hours incarcerated in their train beneath the English Channel. Many had no food, no water and no information from the train operators telling them what was happening. Some passengers even abandoned their trains and walked through the dark, cold tunnel which runs for 24 miles beneath the channel.

Many passengers have expressed dismay at the way in which Eurostar have managed the issues and failed to communicate with travellers. Some passengers are reported to have suffered from panic attacks and others have experienced the effects of claustrophobia. Many passengers have complained about the lack of information from the train operator.

On Saturday as many as 31,000 ticket holders were forced to change their travel plans and on Sunday all services were cancelled resulting in a further 27,000 people being stranded.

Freezing weather conditions have continued to disrupt travel in all parts of the British Isles with flight cancellations from many airports. As weather forecasters warn of further heavy snow in many parts of the UK further travel disruption is expected as Christmas approaches. So what is the best location for us to holiday in the glorious Caribbean, surely there is somewhere that tops the list for you. So now that this has been decided, which islands should you avoid and which ones should you try to visit.

There is an island in the Caribbean that stands out from the rest with regards to being the most popular. St Lucia provides a lot for people to try, ranging from beach holidays to safari holidays. What an island, filled with spa resorts and relaxing places for you to chill out at. If you want to sun bathe and get your self a massage everyday, along with a swim in the clearest blue seas around, then St Lucia is for you. This island, is known to tourists as many things, one of which is it's safety for families and couples. These hotels all receive some of the best possible reviews and all of these same hotels all have some of the most stunning accommodation around. Yes St Lucia, also has a Forest, and some hotels want to make your stay even more pleasant by giving you a free safari tour.

OK now for the place i would really recommend leaving, probably not the best option for a holiday. There is one island that springs to mind, and for one very powerful reason. Right at the bottom of the Caribbean, in a south easterly direction, you meet Trinidad. There us a very good reason why people are a little wary of coming on holiday to this place. Trinidad has a bizarrely high burglary rate and murder rate. Do you really need another reason to go on holiday to a different holiday. You definitely have to go to St Lucia!

So the Caribbean holidays are just around the corner, where are you going to go, how do St Lucia holidays sound, maybe you like the clubbing lifestyle, in which case Barbados holidays are the best option!

Ever wanted to live it up like a celebrity for a week or two, then why not try one of the holidays that they love so much! Celebrities do enjoy a good old holiday, and there are many places all across the world that they enjoy to visit. I am here to divulge some information on where some celebrities may go when they embark on a holiday!

The thing is actually finding the holiday that these celebrities are on? Let's start at the Caribbean, somewhere that you would expect to find these celebrities! St Lucia is probably the most beautiful of all the islands. This is not for the clubbing or partying celebrity, this is for those that enjoy a spa or massage. Amy Winehouse, here is a perfect example of a celebrity that you could possibly meet on holiday. The best thing about this is that she stayed in St Lucia for a while, and was happy for people to come up to her and chat. She made sure she was pleasant to tourists and also she even had a little fun herself.

Now the Caribbean - Again, and this time we go east to Barbados. Barbados is a favourite holiday location of one of the princes of the British sovereignty, Prince Harry quite enjoys a vacation here. Barbados offers everything a party going celebrity would need for a week or so. This party island "Barbados" gives everybody the chance to go out on the St Lawrence mile strip, for as long as you want!

The next location is by far the most luxurious. This is a big honeymoon location for the famous types of people. Beyonce and Jay Z enjoyed a long stay here after their wedding. This is where people can just relax in all day spa's and stroll across beautiful beaches.

The vietnames highlands are densely forested and the lowlands are humid and hot, both areas are home to a large number of different plants and animals. Since the process of cataloguing the Vietnamese wildlife is still in its infancy new species are added on a regular basis. In addition to iconic mammal species like the two newly described species of Muntjac deer, there are also over 800 species of wood, 100 species of amphibians and over 150 species of reptiles to be found in this comparatively small nation, and the recorded number of plant species in the country surpasses 2,000. The country is located in an area where the winds bring airborn seed from the north, south and west which has made this area extremly biological diverse and the forrest are home to a multitude of trees, flowers, fruits and berries. One of only four previously unknown large land animals to be discovered during the 20^th century can be found in Vietnam and is a type of wild ox belonging to a new genus. Two new species of muntjac deer has as earlier mentioned been discribed in Vietnam recently, both of the new species was founf in the same nature preserve, the Vu Quang nature reserve.

Vu Quang is located in a remote densely forested part of Vietnam in the Ha Tin province which is located on the north central coast. The habitat consists of steep mountains covered in dense rainforest and served as a base for Phan Dinh Phung, the Vietnamese revolutionary who led rebel armies against French colonial forces in the late 1800s. The mountains in the preserve capture air from the South Chinese sea and is therefore very hot and humid. The preserve has a very wet climate with constant rain during the rainy season and a lot of fog during the dry season. All areas in the park is wet and slippry (algae grows everywhere) and it is therefore very hard to explore the park. It is so hard that not even hunters from the area want to enter the forrest.

A marvel of nature that is easier to access it the 30 meter high Ban Gioc waterfall the 4^th highest waterfall in the world along a national border. this spectacular waterfall separates the Guangxi Province in China from the Cao Bang province in Vietnam and is located approximately 272 km north of Hanoi. On top of the waterfall there is a stone tablet engraved in Chinese and French saying that it marks the border.

Another fantastic sight near the waterfall is the amazing Tongling gorge which can only be accessed by going through a cavern from another gorge. (A gorge is a deep valley between cliffs, typically carved out of the landscape by a river.) The isolated Tongling Gorge is home to a high degree of endemic plants that can be found nowhere else in the world. This Gorge is said to contain treasure and it is said that locals have fond treasures in it in the past, this is due to the fact that it used to be a hiding place for bandits.

On foot

For shorter distances, nothing beats exploring New York on foot. If you're in Manhattan, the logical grid system with avenues and streets will make it easy for you to find your way to virtually any destination. You can walk about 1 block per minute and there are about 20 blocks per mile along the avenues. Also, why not do like thousands of resident New Yorkers and start the day with a nice jog? In the parts of New York commonly frequented by tourists, all streets have wide and smoothly paved sidewalks and there is of course also the famous Central Park.

Public Transportation

If you want to use the iconic New York subway system you need to purchase a MetroCard. It is still possible to pay cash on the bus, but only if you have the exact amount of change in coins so getting a MetroCard is recommended for the bus traveller as well. MetroCards are issued by the New York City Transit Authority and can be purchased from vending machines and token booths at the stations. By taxi

The traditional yellow New York taxis are famous world wide and few visitors come to New York without trying them at least once. You should only use licensed cabs which can be identified on their special license plates, tax number on the roof, ametal seal on the hood and stickers on the windshield, licensed taxis also have a divider and a meter.

Another alternative is the livery cab, also known as black car or car service, which is called by phone rather than flagged down in the street. You should always negotiate a preice with these taxis because they are usually operated on a flat fee price model. If it saus "Livery" or "TLC" at the bottom of the license plate you know it is an official black taxi.

Chaffuered car

An alternative to simply hailing a cab off the street is to retain the services of a transport company offering something a little bit more fanciful, such as a modern stretch hummer limousine or classy Lincoln Continental limousine. Exploring New York with your own driver on stand by for a few hours can be surprisingly inexpensive.

Rental car to drive yourself

For those who prefer to do the driving themselves, New York has a multitude of car rental agencies to choose among and many have fitted their cars with GPS devices that make it easy for you to find your way even if you've never been to New York before. This is a good option if you want to explore that state of new york as well as the city, ie. take a drive in the country side and perhaps stay at a B&B outside new york, or why not take a drive up to Rhode Island. If you plan on driving in the city, keep in mind that the traffic can be quite hectic and finding parking spots is difficult. Previous driving experience from high-paced multimillion cities is recommended.

In what is one of the more interesting international rugby matches of the southern-hemisphere's winter tour, Wales take on the All Blacks at the Millenium Stadium, Cardiff on the 7th of November. Wales will be hoping to bounce back after a rather disappointing Six Nations Campaign, and New Zealand will provide a tough test, as always.

This is a sold out match and the atmosphere is likely to be electric, as it was in the corresponding fixture last year which New Zealand won 9-29.

The statue of Greyfriars Bobby is in memory of the little dog that returned to its master’s grave every single day for 14 years. The little Skye terriers master died in 1857 and the loyal dog returned to visit and sit at his grave side until Bobby past away.

Greyfriars Bobby has since appeared in books and even Walt Disney have made a film following the Skye terriers story and love of its master.

Well, the summer hols are almost upon us once again and our thoughts start drfting towards where we could go for a few fun weekends in the sun! We have posted before about our last trip to Brighton, and we think that its about time we went back (albeit in more relaxing circumstances).

Heathrow Airport as you've never seen it before

Sorry for the rather long winded title but we think you'll find it pretty accurate.....

We somehow managed to miss this at the time - but the BBC has a page of stunning images of Heathrow Terminal 5. There are panoramas of the various sections of the terminal, as well as superb 360 degree photo-imagery, where you can zoom in, out and rotate to your hearts content.

Hopefully, all the ancilliary services around the airport will begin to offer similar services ie Heathrow Airport Hotels - they really give an insight into the place you are visiting.

Hull is a UK town which has garnered a rather poor reputation. It was heavily bombed during the Second World War and the subsequent decline in industry hit the city hard. However, it has undergone something of a rebirth in recent years, and their football team Hull FC are currently in superb form in the English Premier League. The Culture section of the Hull Wikipedia entry can do the attractions of Hull far more justice than this blog. However, I am reliably informed that this is an excellent hotel in Hull for anyone who fancies a visit.

Ive been asked down to Hemel Hempstead for a few days visit. Having never been there in my life, ive been researching the town to find out what i could get up to whilst im there. The Wikipedia entry has been helpful (i didnt actually know it was a new town with a population of 80,000!), and there is apparently a nice Hemel Hempstead Hotel just outside the town. Hemelweb's guide to the area has also been a great help. There should be plenty to be getting on with anyway - ill report back on my return!

Comic legend Steve Coogan hits the road again later this year for a 40 date UK Tour. Titled by the hilariously accurate moniker of "Steve Coogan is Alan Partridge and other less successful characters", we've already booked our tickets for the Glasgow show and cannot wait. Heres hoping that we see the continual downfall of Alan Partridge, Paul Calf insulting students, Duncan Thicket, Tony Ferrino (works better live than on TV) and an apperance by Tommy Saxondale - a very underrated series.

The tour starts in October and venues are set to include Stoke-on-Trent, Oxford, Wolverhampton, Derby, two nights in Nottingham, Blackburn, Liverpool, Ipswich, Bristol, Norwich (up with The Partidge!). Other venues include Southend, Sheffield, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Portsmouth, Brighton, Blackpool, Bournemouth, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Newcastle and Leeds. In order to avoid dissapointment we would recommend booking hotel rooms early (check here for some good offers) - especially in the bigger towns and cities. Brighton - Party Town!

Last weekend was my cousins stag weekend in Brighton and it's only now that im beginning to enter the real world. As it was felt that I had some expertise in the area I was put in charge of finding the best hotel deals we could get. After a few rejections and intense negotiations I managed to get us a good deal here, after promising to that we would be on our best behaviour....

Glasgow - First Pint 5.30am

5.30am in Glasgow Airport (Smeato's work) - 'Fancy a pint mate?'-just what I needed, a pre-breakfast lager!.....only 48 hours to go!...........

Our flight was left Glasgow at 7.30am prompt and we arrived at Gatwick Airport at 830am. We grabbed the shuttle from Gatwick to the train station and from there a seamless transfer down to Brighton.

Brighton - cool hotel

Having not been in Brighton for around 20 years, it was great to return. It was amazing how much of the place was familiar-the pier and the beach had obviously made an impression all those years ago. After checking into the Brighton hotel we were staying at, we then headed out and had some fun - however as im sure you are aware, 'what happens on the stag, stays on the stag'.

Stranded at Gatwick Airport

The return journey was not quite as smooth-we somehow go split up and 7 of us missed our return flight to Glasgow! This was mainly due to one group taking an earlier shuttle train and catching the flight without us (thanks guys). Stranded in Gatwick we had to come up with a plan . Luckily, most of us had the next day off and we were able to check in with no problems at all at the nearby Gatwick Airport Hotel, where we had a much needed lie down and brekfast.

Returning to Glasgow early the next morning the general consensus was that everyone had survived and it had all been worth it. I would recommend Brighton for any stag party-there's loads to do and the whole place has a great atmosphere in the summer.

Next month-its my best friend's stag in Leeds!.

Need a cheap hotel for Jimmy Carr

My friends son asked me to find him a hotel in Glasgow for the Jimmy Carr concert. It needed to be cheap, easy to get to the venue and near bars.

After a bit of digging around I found the Ramada Jarvis Glasgow. It is located on Ingram St. in Merchant City; Merchant City is well know if it's bars, restaurants and clubs so it was perfect for him. And finally the price, it was only 59 per person which is very reasonable for Glasgow, especially where the Ramada Glasgow is located in the heart of the city.
